World Heritage Day is observed across the globe every year on Monday 18 April to bring awareness about natural heritage and preserve the ancient culture.
The day has been announced as World Heritage Day by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) for the awareness of dying cultures of different countries and also for the sites, sculptures and monuments.
The theme for this year's World Heritage Day is 'Heritage and Climate' which indicates the connection between climate change and natural heritages worldwide.
In the year 1982, the ICOMOS (International Council of Monuments and Sites) came up with a suggestion that people across the world need to be aware of preserving the historic sites as well as the ancient culture.
After one year during the 22nd General Conference of UNESCO i.e. in 1983, the organization adopted the idea regarding the conservation of ancient tribes, cultures and historical sites.
The day holds great historical significance as it is mainly celebrated by focusing on the historic culture and sites that depict the ancient past.
